Funka z Universidad de Chile, který se zaměří na hlavní kandidáty, klíčová témata volební kampaně a to, co je v sázce pro chilskou demokracii. Jako člověk, který se chilskou politikou zabývá již desítky let, nabídne prof. Funk přímý vhled do sil a aktérů, kteří pohánějí změny v regionu. Po přednášce bude následovat otevřená diskuse, během níž budou mít účastníci možnost klást otázky a přímo si vyměňovat názory s přednášejícím.
Akci pořádá Středisko iberoamerických studií (SIAS) FF UK ve spolupráci s projektem ERA-AREAS, který podporuje rozvoj výzkumu a výuky v oblasti regionálních studií.
Robert L. Funk
je profesorem politologie na Fakultě vládních studií Universidad de Chile, kde v letech 2009 až 2013 působil jako zástupce ředitele (proděkan).
Je držitelem titulu Ph.D. v oboru státní správy a titulu MSc. v oboru srovnávací politiky z London School of Economics and Political Science a titulu BA v oboru politologie z Torontské univerzity. Byl hostujícím vědcem na Univerzitě v Miami, v Centru pro strategická a mezinárodní studia a na London School of Economics. Jeho výzkum se zaměřuje na demokratizaci, prezidentialismus a politické elity v Latinské Americe.
Mimo akademickou sféru je partnerem v Andes Risk Group, bývalým předsedou Chilské asociace politických věd a častým komentátorem pro národní a mezinárodní média, přispívá do médií jako Financial Times, CNN International, Americas Quarterly a různých chilských zpravodajských médií.

Renowned political scientist Robert L. Funk from the University of Chile will explore the leading candidates, the key issues shaping the campaigns, and what is at stake for Chilean democracy.

We are pleased to invite students, academics, and the general public to attend a lecture by renowned political scientist Robert L. Funk from the University of Chile, who will explore the leading candidates, the key issues shaping the campaigns, and what is at stake for Chilean democracy. As someone who has studied Chilean politics for decades, Prof. Funk will offer first-hand insight into the forces and actors driving change in the region. The lecture will be followed by an open discussion, giving participants the chance to ask questions and exchange views directly with the speaker.
This event is organized by the Center for Ibero-American Studies (SIAS) at Charles University’s Faculty of Arts in cooperation with the ERA-AREAS project, which promotes the development of area studies research and teaching.
Robert L. Funk
is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the Faculty of Government, University of Chile, where he served as deputy director (vice-dean) from 2009 to 2013.
He holds a PhD in Government and an MSc in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a BA in Political Science from the University of Toronto. He has been a visiting scholar at the University of Miami, the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the London School of Economics. His research focuses on democratization, presidentialism, and political elites in Latin America.
Outside academia, he is a partner at Andes Risk Group, a former president of the Chilean Political Science Association, and a frequent commentator for national and international media, with contributions to outlets such as the Financial Times, CNN International, Americas Quarterly, and various Chilean news outlets.
